GIS Mapping

GIS mapping was conducted for many counties in Southwestern Ontario. The maps are of particular interest to sustainable food and agriculture because they identify growing conditions that may help to identify potential growing areas for alternative crops. The maps include:

  • Temperature isotherms from 1981 to 2010.
  • Agricultural commodities grown in different counties.
  • Farmers’ Markets.
  • Surface Soil Texture.
  • Soil Capability Classes based on the Canada Land Inventory (CLI).
  • Surface Soil Drainage Characteristics.
  • Plant Hardiness Zones.
