Elgin Begins Journey

Elgin is the first county to begin planning a Sustainable Food Cluster in Southwestern Ontario and they are a perfect choice! Based on three comprehensive research studies, their 2011-2014 economic strategy has a strong focus on Food and Agriculture and the jobs that can be created.

The first step, currently underway, is the formation of a knowledgeable, inclusive, value-chain planning team made up of producers, processors and commercial and institutional food purchasers. The team will identify new scale production and processing opportunities for the purpose of driving them forward. As implementation plans are being created, a broad range of stakeholders will be engaged to provide input.

The county is, “eager to join with other counties to craft local implementation plans and to work on common planning elements to create a sustainable food system in Southwestern Ontario.”
